Reflection: Group Working

Image
Figure 1). Listed categories of group working (click to enhance image size) Whilst our group did not have a formally assigned leader, I felt a certain sense of responsibility for making this exhibition happen. The sheer number of choices involved within exhibition planning leaves room for disagreement amongst members, a fact worsened by the ever-present anxiety regarding our individual production of work to showcase. However, this experience has granted me a huge learning curve and revealed a sea of do’s and don’ts within exhibition curation. I have reflected upon this procedure (particularly the past fortnight) and noted some aspects of our groups’ success, weaknesses, and target areas of improvement. (See Fig. 1). Our groups’ greatest strengths include the overall organization of meetings and willingness to help from fellow group members. Excellent communication meant progress outside standard working hours. Our group never faltered in being able to dissect complex tasks into s...

Reflection: Exhibition

Figure 1). Photograph of my exhibition, captured on mobile device. (click to enhance image)     Figure 2). Painting set-up (left) board set up (right) (click to enhance image/play video) The final exhibition was of immense personal and collaborative success. On Friday the 21st of March, we painted the boards to prepare them for the following Monday. After a hectic morning transporting twenty-four exhibition boards from Brampton campus to the market hall, I began the installation of Remember when (see Fig. 2) Rationale The final exhibition of Remember when  is complex, composed using several strategies. Once finished installing, I practiced distancing myself from my work and view my work from an audience perspective, a strategy encouraged by Shirley Read. ( Read, S. (2014)  Exhibiting photography: a practical guide to displaying your work . 2nd ed. Burlington, Mass: Focal Press.)   All elements involved in the exhibition play a vital role; the materials incl...

Contextual and Exhibition Statement

Image
Figure 1). Complete portfolio project statement. (click to enhance image)   As per the Jerwood/Photoworks Awards, the statement should include the following: o     A statement about your practice and themes that interest you o     The title, subject matter and approach of the project o     Proposals of how you would extend the project if selected My complete portfolio statement aims to answer the above, with the added focus of providing contextual insight into the concept of Remember when. (See Fig. 1) Figure 2). Exhibition information panel of project  (click to enhance image)  I recycled sections of the previous statement and altered the exhibition statement to become 'exhibition-friendly'. This statement has been altered to suit less academic viewers, ensuring it appeals to a wider range of audience of those who might attend our exhibition.

A new direction: Jerwood/Photoworks Awards - Project Brief Analysis

Image
Figure 1). The Jerwood/Photoworks Awards In light of Remember when ’s development into a more conceptual/fine art direction, it was recommended that I revaluate the project brief of which I am submitting this project for. After careful consideration, Remember when is considerably suitable for the Jerwood project brief compared to its previous intention for the AOP submission. This recent decision will see tactful adaptations of the project in order meet the criteria for the Jerwood submission. Jerwood awards are a monumental commission opportunity for aspiring photographers. The winners of this competition are awarded global recognition and with the substantial prize, are enabled to expand their projects and dwell further into their photographic practice. What are the judges of Jerwood looking for? Figure 2). Scanned notes of previous winners for Jerwood/Photoworks Awards (click to enhance image size) Researching into past winners of the Jerwood competition, the judges seem particular...
