Evaluation of the Venue & Exhibition layout

Image
Figure 1. Mind-map of what to take into consideration when evaluating an exhibition space. (Click to enhance image size) Due to a multitude of venue prospects becoming gradually eliminated by a variety of reasons (out of budget, unavailability for that specific date, or a retail-focused interest of the owner), the decision became a process of elimination. After a group discussion on the 1 st of March, the Market Hall in Carlisle City Centre was agreed as the ideal option. Once the Market Hall was confirmed, I noted the relevant details of this space onto a mind-map of what to take into consideration when evaluating a potential exhibition space. This brought to light the advantages and disadvantages of the Market Hall (see Fig. 1). Figure 2). Exhibition Planning: Development & Personal reflection

Meeting minutes from 22nd February - 8th March.  (Click to enhance image size)   Updated critical path exhibition planner (see Fig. 1) and observations  from the research and planning activity  (See Fig. 2)  The  time period between 22nd February and the 8th of March focused primarily upon selecting a venue and tracking our live fundraising campaign on justgiving.com. The meetings evolved from group discussions into individual check-in points, allowing each team member to share an update within their personal responsibility. This granted effective use of our time as communication flourished and as such ensured all members were made aware of the progression within our exhibition planning. Figure 3). Format Festival 2023 (part 2): Ideas & Application from Exhibitions

FORMAT - Ideas & Application from Exhibitions Figure 1). Exhibition of Paul Railton (Click to enhance image/play video) Whilst some immersive tactics have already been considered for my project (specifically the rose-tinted glasses aspect of this project being an integral part of my exhibition), new ways of immersive elements incorporated into the exhibition was introduced during the Format Festival. In addition to the rose-tinted glasses, my exhibition will incorporate real soil as part of the presentation. This physical feature has been incorporated for primarily two reasons: to strengthen the creativity of the presentation of this work and to represent the organic state of where the photographed objects were first found. This feature was introduced by observing work by Paul Railton during the visit to the East meets West exhibition, Hidden Worlds (see Fig. 1). In his project, Massifs , the soil is implemented to represent coastal erosion, manifesting a small-scale ve...

Format Festival 2023 (part 1): Critical Analysis of Exhibitions

FORMAT - Critical Analysis of Exhibitions Figure 1). Exhibition of Alan Jones. (Click to enhance image/play video) Figure 2). Exhibition of Oliver Frank Chanarin. (Click to play video) The Format Festival 2023 was of immense success. From the sheer volume of people present during the opening night to the multitude of inspiring work across a variety of exhibitions, the interactions and learning opportunities seemed endless. In relevance to my current project, extra attention was paid to the diverse range of exhibition methods present; Innovative and contemporary exhibition methods, using asymmetric composition and less common mounting techniques (see Fig. 1) were met with more traditional and linear ways of exhibiting work (see Fig. 2).  Figure 3). Ruby Nixon (left) and Ryan L. Moule (right) Figure 4). Exhibition of Louisa Beer. (Click to enhance image/play video) Furthermore, Format 2023 demonstrated various scales of photographic work (see Fig. 3) and modern strategies in place to...
